Time Signature or Meter is a way of measuring time in music. Located at the top left of the music you may be reading, the bottom number indicates the type of note that gets the beat. The top number indicates how many beats are contained in each measure. If you view the time signature like a fraction, the 4/4 time can be considered four quarters; there is the value of four quarter notes in each measure. If only it were as simple as that....
